At the risk of wading in to a debate above me, I tend to think that Denise
Goodfellow's reply "not everyone is as knowledgeable as you!" has hit the
nail on the head. I admit that the opening paragraph has some figures pulled
out of someone's rear end (as Keith Egan said I doubt that much thought went
into the phrase "more than 1000 species gracing our sky" etc), but as a
publication for the masses, I thought it wasn't too bad.  My 9 year old
daughter enjoyed it, as did my wife who hasn't got a natural history bone in
her body....yet! (I'm working on that).  I think we need to recognise where
the publication was intended for - political issues aside.  I'm a member of
Friends of Group and any recognition in the printed media is a wonderful
boost to a groups morale.
