I was thrilled to have a Black Bittern about ten feet away from the edge of the road up near Mossman, F.N.Q. It was just outside a crop of sugar cane and feeding in long grass near the bitumen edge. It was raining at the time. I also had another one flying over the mangrove channel by Centenary Lake's freshwater pond, in Cairns, during the middle of the day. I have never seen one in NSW. Lorne.
