The family of Pelican we have in these parts is now up
to 17 in number ! five young .... also a good friend
of mine of these parts said he had an unusual bird
family in his garden ? after investigation, some
photo's, which I have now scanned to disk, we are
proud to say
we have a nice family of Cuckoo-shrike that have taken
up residence close to the Hastings township. Has
anyone studied them and could anyone answer a few
questions I have about them ? wonder what ever gave
them that colouring? most beautiful .....

Oh that call that tugs at my heart,
It's gentle warble sound,
Just tears me apart,
Nowadays their is no other,
At home, for which I care,
Except he, that dances like Fred Astaire,

He came to me from his fire ravaged nest,
Together we get along and do our best,
It's a big learning curve for us both, you know?,
Him sprouting feathers as I watch him grow,
Vary his diet as best we can,
Not to much Heinz or raw meat for this man,
Play with him gently, with his ping pong ball,
Those first few wingflaps, Oops then a fall,

Made up some feathers tied with string,
I pull along the ground now it's his plaything,
Surely he knows I'm a Hawthorn man,
But I welcome this white-backed magpie to my clan,

I've been searching around to give him a good name,
Something that goes with his Black and White fame,
Then suddenly it dawned what I had to do,
Change MY surname to match his birdie views,
So thought all I could to come up with an assignation,
Liked so much my new surname "Nobacon"
It all goes so well with his new tag,
"Eggbert" Nobacon, waving his Magpie flag.
