Further to Jack Krohn's email, I visited the Austin Road lagoons this morning (Monday 24 Jan) between 0625 and 0830 and saw the Hudwit with 5 Black-tailed Godwits. The Hudwit and two of the other Godwits were grooming, dipping their bills in the water and scratching their chins with their feet. When I arrived the two Brolga were present and, yes, at about 0645, they flew off towards the You Yangs. The Hudwit took some time to sort out but I was fortunate that a noisy truck came down the road and startled the birds into flying around the lagoon before landing again. Whilst in flight the dark underwing was very visible.
