Funding Opportunity - Postgraduate Ornithological Research and Conferences
Applications for the 2000 Stuart Leslie Bird Research Award are now open.
Established in 1997, this national Award supports the research work of
postgraduate students and ornithologists in Australia, enabling them to
participate in essential fieldwork and attend scientific conferences.
Applications in the following areas are encouraged:
- field work on the behaviour and ecology of native Australian birds
- conservation biology of threatened native birds and management of their
habitats
- travel to ornithological conferences within Australia by postgraduate
students to deliver a paper or poster
Typically, grants of $500 to $3000 will be awarded for research projects
and up to $500 made available for fieldwork or conference travel. Grants
for research projects will be renewable for 2-3 years, provided
satisfactory progress is made and reports are submitted on time.
Grants are awarded on the strict understanding that funds will be exempt
from university, college or other institutional or organisational
administration charges.
Preference is given to supporting researchers at an early stage of their
research program.
Applications close 31 March 2000. Awards will be announced late June.
