I was at Austin Road Swamp, on the Point Wilson Road, near Melbourne
Victoria yesterday to see the Godwit. It raised its wings obligingly a
couple of times in the hour I was there and the 10 or so of us present at
the time cooed in appreciation.
Hanzab says that in New Zealand, where it is a regular if rare vagrant, it stays around the same place, sometimes for the whole season. So if there any locals who have not seen it, have a try. Please contact me directly for detailed directions. Why is it more common in NZ than Australia?
