G'day all

Can anyone point me towards any info/reports/papers/films,etc
about Talon Grappling ?....... especially by our Aus' raptors.

I am sure I've read something but cannot remember where.!
Maybe in an old Emu ?

Is it always a nuptial thing ? OR
Is it sometimes two males protecting their territory ? OR
Is it sometimes two birds just having a bit of fun ?

Which of our raptors have been recorded doing it ?

The index's for the following do not assist.
Olsen................................Aust Birds of Prey
Hollands..........................Eagles,Hawks & Falcons

The following have no index to help me.
Morris..............................Birds of Prey of Aust
Cupper & Cupper...........Hawks in Focus

Brown,Leslie..1997...........Birds of Prey (Chancellor Press) P160/1
does have info for the Osprey and African Fish Eagle.
The author also writes "the ultimate, spectacular whirling or
cartwheeling is rare, most often performed by sea eagles and kites."

Four years ago I was a thrilled witness to a pair of Whistling Kites
plummeting a 100 meters or so. They also fell through about 20
 soaring Black Kites .
I could not see if any food or anything was transferred between
them

The above was prompted by Jill Dening's recent message in
Birding-Aus as follows:-

"I had mentioned to Bob Forsyth that I had observed (some
time ago now) what appeared to be courtship display between
two WBSEs at rather a low level above the water and mangroves.
Maybe twenty meters. At one point the raptors "rolled over",
appeared to lock feet briefly, before continuing the display.
There was no exchange of food, and I believe there was no
      aggression involved."
