Mike and all,

My community college group and I saw our first White-throated Needletails
of the season this morning (3rd December) at McMahon's Lookout, overlooking
Lake Burragorang 25km south of Wentworth Falls. They were flying around
over a large area between the carpark and above the lake between 7.45 and
9.30am. My students conservatively estimated at least 20 birds, but it's
possible the flock was up to many times larger than this, as much of the
time we could only see a small portion of the sky between the trees. The
weather was warm and calm with no evidence of storms or unsettled
conditions, although a southerly change and the chance of a thunderstorm is
forecast for tomorrow (of course, it's the weekend!).

I will post a full report of our two mornings at this beautiful location
later today.

Cheers,
Carol
