Hi everyone
I was going to leave this a little
longer, but this will be the last time I get to use my free email while here at
ADFA, as I will be away for the next two weeks. I have been posted at the end of
this year to Sale in eastern Victoria for my Navigators course.
At the end of the year I am making my birding trip of all time up to
Cairns. I have a friend giving me the good word on how to find most of the birds
I was after, but was wondering if anyone could give me any little pieces of
information they have found helpful on their trips up there - I was particularly
interested on info on how to best find some of the nightbirds or other rarities
that require that little bit of specialist info (Buff-breasted Button Quail
perhaps?) Any help would be appreciated.
Finally I can't part without a few words on birding-aus. I have thoroughly
enjoyed my short stint on it since April this year. Because of it I got to see
my first Freckled Ducks, and the info I got before I left for Round HiIl was
invaluable. I will miss all those Sunday night/Monday morning reports of the
weekend from people around the place (especially Edwin Vella, Laurie Knight,
Lawrie Conole and Trevor Quested). I think though that we should be careful not
to abuse the list - lately I think there has been too many spiteful messages
directed between people. I also think we should be careful not to clog up
everyone's mailboxes with postings that aren't to do with birding, or which are
just someone putting in their two bobs worth (yes i know i am doing it now
too!!). I know I'd rather read someones trip report than an attack on someone
else's views on a certain topic. But then again, I guess this might be me
annoyed at the list not being used as I would like!!
Either way, cheerio everyone, and good birding. Please reply to my RFI, as
I only have a few days left......
Nick
