Hi all ... when I was patiently waiting at the security entrance to
Government House, Sydney this evening for the Australian Chamber Concert to
begin I chatted briefly with the police on duty while they fed the birds ...
Rainbow Lorrikeet, Black Duck, Noisy Miner, Australian Magpie and Common
Mynah. Not an unusual list, so I returned to reading my edition of
"Forktail" ... only to hear "aahh, the roadrunner ...". Another concert goer
uttered "what is that?" and I quickly replaced reading specs for more normal
ones. There, on the bitumen surface, in full view, a Banded Rail. Not only
that, the police said it had chicks in the undergrowth in the gardens near
by. It seemed unperturbed ... even brazen. The best views I have ever had
... and many more. The police told me that is was often there and is ignored
by the tourists. They love the Lorrikeets.
The concert was ok too.
