A new Seabird for Australia
Mike Carter called last night to inform that they (a party of 9 birders
just back from a voyage to Ashmore Reef) had seen 15 and maybe as many
as 25 SWINHOE'S STORM PETREL at sea close to Ashmore Reef, off WA.
Apparently excellent views were obtained - which if accepted (and
judging by the views and the number of people present shouldn't be a
problem) will make this yet another new bird for the Australian list.
Also seen were small numbers of Matsudaira's Storm Petrel, Bulwer's
Petrel lots of Streaked Shearwater, Hutton's Shearwater and lots more.
Stay tuned for a full report. Anyone want to go next year? There is
nothing worse than organising a trip and then not being able to go
yourself and then getting severely gripped.
Any guesses as to what the next new Australian bird will be?
Regards
