Dear Tim, Re picture of Bittern on notice at Banyule Swamp, Heidelberg, Vic. - Cam Beardsell certainly flushed one a few years ago, when surveying area for NEROC conservation study (possibly still available from Nillumbik Council, on CD disk). He did so by wading right across the middle, which I wouldn't because of disturbance to birds and snakes, and I dont possess waders. Perhaps a professional survey, now and then, does excuse him. It is certainly much better habitat than the lake or pond in Kalparrin Gardens near Greensborough Shopping Centre, where one was seen by Council staff earlier this year - trying to hide in a minute and inadequate clump of reeds or Typha. Someone photographed it I believe. Anthea Fleming in Ivanhoe To unsubscribe from this list, please send a message to Include ONLY "unsubscribe birding-aus" in the message body (without the quotes) |
