I once asked one of South Africas leading birders if he had seen all 8
of the Flufftails (genus Sarothura, a particularly difficult group of
African rails). Seen them all he said, I've eaten the all! Apparently
when collecting specimens for museums he would always eat a portion and
now had a huge list of 'eaten' birds.
