Hi Tom, and any interested SEQ birding-aussers,

Thanks for the update on Buckley's Hole, Bribie Island.  A Musk Duck first appeared on 30/7 but I haven't seen it for a few weeks now.  Was yours a female?  On the same date there were 2 Aus. Shoveler; this number had risen to 6 by 24/8 but I haven't seen them since.  Magpie Geese are often (normally) around with numbers up to about 12.  Wandering Whistling Duck are usually present, with a maximum of 50+ on 9/8.  Buff-banded Rail and Baillon's Crake have been seen at Buckley's Hole in the last month or so (at least two of each) but the water level has been too high for Spotless Crakes to appear.  Numbers of Eurasian Coot, Hardhead and Comb-crested Jacana are significantly down on the high counts of a couple of months ago.  Other interesting sightings have been a Little Grassbird and an immature Masked Booby, and both Bottle-nose and Indo-pacific Humback Dolphins.

Incidentally, a Wandering Albatross was found dead on Bribie Island's beach last monday.

Cheers - Trevor.

G'day All,
Message mainly aimed at SE Queenslanders, visited Buckley's Hole on Bribie Island yesterday and found a Musk Duck, 2 Magpie Geese and a flock of Wandering Whistling-Duck. I'm not sure whether they are very remarkable records but thought I'd better put them on for interest sake.
Tom
