G'day all

Recently I spent a morning birding in the Whyalla Conservation Park - a
small reserve of mulga and bluebush a few km north of the city. The most
interesting bird was a Thick-billed Grasswren. For those that know the
park it was in bluebush along the track that starts at the picnic ground
and leads up the small hill (name escapes me).

I believe this is a significant sighting and would appreciate any comments.
There was only one record of a TbGr in this area during the first Atlas
period.

The bird (or birds) were extremely elusive. I really like Pizzey's comment
that they can 'magically' disappear. By contrast the TbGrs at Monkey Mia
(different subspecies) were easy to see.

Cheers

Steve
