Hi Joshua, Coming from that area myself, (well, within about 40km, in the Strzelecki ranges), it's possible that it was an olive whistler. At my parents place, we normally see them around this time, and your description of a grey head and olive-brown back means it could be one. It is unlikely to be a golden whistler (which hang around in south and west gippsland all winter - I saw a few on the weekend), they are generally a plain grey all over. I haven't seen a rufous this season yet. Was the bird on the ground and in undergrowth, or was it high in a tree? Other people may disagree, but around home, I tend to see olive whistlers down low, and other species of whistler up higher in the trees (this is utterly anecdotal, and about as unscientific an observation as you can get!). It is unlikely to be a whipbird, as the main feature on them is their crest and white markings on the face. I hope this helps, Cheers, Michael. Michael Mules
