We were delighted yesterday to have Pallid Cuckoos very actively displaying, swooping, chasing, calling for a couple of hours around our place at Elphinstone (about 50 kms South of Bendigo in Victoria). There were two flying together and a third occasionally joining in. I would be interested in an explanation of what was the likely activity. Was it two males competitively courting the one female, a pair being accompanied by an unsuccessful suitor, a pair with young from earlier breeding, just a few hoons having fun, or what?
