Dear Philip After much media hype the eclipse was a bit of a damp squib - with cloud cover over much of southern England. Those who went to Cornwall (the zone of totality) had to watch it on TV. However it went quite dark there. One problem is that in mid-August you don't get birds singing anyway. I watched the eclipse from Central London where the busy streets stopped and everyone watched. Every office block was covered in people! They even put out a warning to stock-brokers that The City financial institutions would stop working!
