Grasswrens must surely be one of the most challenging but delightful groups of Oz birds. Sometimes they can be extremely difficult to see. You can hear them close by but to actually see them!!! Other times they will respond well to squeaking and "bounce" all around you....have not worked out why, maybe related to the breeding season. Any suggestions? Anyway, last Sunday within 20 minutes I managed to locate three separate flocks of Thick-billed Grasswrens on the 2 km stretch into Strangways Historic Site (29. 14, 58 s 136. 39, 34 e) off the Oodnadatta Track 37 km South of William Creek SA and got excellent views. This was by far the most Thick-bills I have seen at any one location. Wonderful.
