Subject: RFI - Crested Bellbird and Hooded Robin (Vic.)
Another request for observant birdos
Further to my earlier requests for 'non-atlassed' records for Apostlebird,
Speckled Warbler and Diamond Firetail, I'm making a similar request for
list members opinions on evidence of decline in breeding and sight records
for the following species. I am making an assessment of the conservation
status of these taxa in se Australia, particularly Victoria.
Crested Bellbird and Hooded Robin
I invite observers to contact me directly with any observations of these
species which have NOT already been forwarded to the Atlas of Victorian
Wildlife or the new Atlas of Australian Birds. If you have noted the
species in the past and found it now absent or noticably declined from the
same locality I am keen to hear from you (dates, locality and numbers if
possible).
Thanks to all those who have already responded to me with their personal
observations and impressions of the first mentioned species above. Your
comments have added immensely to the accuracy of my reports. This posting
is a general request to the list for further observations.
Note that the Crested Bellbird is now 'extinct' in the northeast of
Victoria and Hooded Robins have shown declines in reporting rates for large
parts of the state since 1980.
