G'day all,
My son in Perth sent me page 62 from "On The Road" for June 1999.
(I guess this is the magazine for the WA automobile association.)
It refers to Pedro, a Mangrove Heron in a caravan park "in the Tweed Heads
hinterland in Queensland", that "has learnt the gentle art of fishing -
with bread."
"When guests throw bread to Pedro he places it the water and jiggles it to
attract fish. Pedro strikes quickly and eats his catch when fish feed on
the bread. He'll do this for an hour or more and, like all good anglers,
Pedro is extremely patient."
(In case anyone not familiar with the geography of this part of the world
is puzzled, Tweed Heads (which is New South Wales) is contiguous with
Coolangatta in Queensland.)
Cheers
