PAY ATTENTION ALL. This is an email I sent to the office of
Geoff Craig, Victorian Minister for Road & Civil Planning. Many may not be
aware that the Liberal Government has allocated funding for the Eastern Freeway
Extension before evaluating the "Long Tunnel" proposal. This proposal has been
put forward by the residents of the Whitehorse & Manningham Municipalities
together with the Australian Conservation Foundation so as to preserve native
bushland and fauna of national significance. To give people in other states an
idea, it would be like running a freeway through the Blue Mountains or the
Adelaide Hills and we propose putting the freeway mainly
underground.
I think this issue is very important as we can't continue wholesale
clearance of native vegetation and bushland.
I'll keep you posted
To whom it may concern,
I am writing in regards to the imminent extension to the freeway and its
funding. I have been informed that the Government has ruled out having the
excess cost (ie: over and above the $255million allocated) of the 'long tunnel
proposal' funded by private contractors who would be repaid through tolling the
extension. I would like to know why it has been ruled out, which effectively
eliminates the long tunnel proposal. That being the case, the long tunnel
costing study, which is currently being prepared, must have been organised for
PR reasons, because the answer is already decided by default.
I would appreciate an answer to these points
Thankyou, Nigel Sterpin email:
