For the not yet converted, the annual May Regent Honeyeater/Swift Parrot
survey is on this weekend (22-23 May). Quite a few people have already
advised of their intended destinations and we know that others will be
heading out to their favourite spots.

Swift Parrots appear to have dispersed quite a bit further north than this
time last year and chances of recording this species is perhaps better for
those in NSW and Queensland than last year. There are still, however,
plenty in Victoria for who are prepared to search.

Regent Honeyeaters, on the other hand, have been reluctant to reveal their
whereabouts and, for this species, this survey really is about ferreting
them out. After last years strange breeding season they really could be
anywhere. This is particularly so given the flowering patterns of Mugga
Ironbark and White Box at the moment.

If you are interested in helping out with this survey, be it a trip to the
box-ironbark or just something locally to fill in a couple of hours over
the weekend, please contact either of us for survey forms.

Remember, they're out there somewhere, we just have to find them!
