1. Pat O'Malley and I visited the Creswell Forest behind La Trobe
University at Watsonia yesterday and found 5 (brown) pink robins there
about 50 metres down the track from the main entrance. They were feeding on
the track. Other common bush birds there in abundance. Thanks to Steve
Clark for pointing this out.
2. Mark Chappell and others have mentioned continuous bird flight ranges of
4,000 km or more during migrations. There is data suggesting that great
knot and bar-tailed godwit can travel non-stop between North West Australia
and Shanghai a distance of 5500 km. It has been suggested that South East
Australian based birds can make non-stop flights of up to 8000km. See M.
