Greetings all Bill said "But this surely isn't going to lead anywhere at this time of year. Comments, explanations or opinions would be most welcome." Bill, breeding in autumn can occur is some species, if the environmental stimulus to breed lasts long enough and there is enough food to sustain the effort. I have documented (in Emu) the autumnal breeding of Welcome swallows. Then this often depends on the environment. In Samoa i had swiftlets breeding all the year round, and it looks as though something similar is happening here in PNG. Keep watching for it may happen.
