Very interested to read Anthea Fleming’s report on Morwell National Park. About 18 months ago, prior to my getting a computer & suscribing to birding-aus, my wife & I were visiting the in-laws at Morwell. I went for a walk near a water treatment plant operated by Gippsland Water Co..located just off the Princes Highway , approx 1 km from the Morwell Railway Station going towards Moe. In spite of the locked gate & NO ENTRY sign at the plant I was able to get a glimpse, from the boundary, of one of the ponds on which were Black Duck Grey Teal & a Blue-billed Duck. A Barn Owl flew out of a tree near the barbed wire fence & disappeared towards the ponds.

I later phoned Gippsland Water & asked if entry to the area was possible. I was informed that it wasn’t. Perhaps Victorian birders could take up this matter as it seems a pity to exclude such a place from birding access. Are there any birders in  the Latrobe Valley?
