A Gurney's Eagle has been seen at Long Reef, Sydney, today 1.3.99 at 12:30pm. It was seen flying over Long Reef golf course by Robert D'Ongro from National Parks when he was playing on the sixth hole. He rang me straight away. He was hysterical. The bird was an immature. Any birders going after it will have to look for the pale blue lores and pink feet. The outer primaries are tinged russet. This is a first for NSW, and a first for the 1st of April in Australia.
