NZ Magpies.
It might depend on when you were there.
We were in NZ in November 1990 on a tour which included a very keen
English person with tape=recorder. She was disappointed because Magpies
were not singing, but was told it was because they were too busy feeding
young to have the time. However a very early morning session near
Dunedin happily resulted in some good magpie song on tape.
I always notice magpie song here in Vic., like Grey Butcherbird, as
more noticeable in autumn and winter than in summer.
