Dear All,
Recently Birds Australia (BA) has had a change in its conservation policy,
which has resulted in the disbanding of the Birds Australia Conservation
Committee which for years has been the conservation voice of BA. There is a
new committee to be formed by BA (BA Strategic Conservation Committee)
whose brief is to advise the BA council on what conservation initiatives,
policies, priorities and actions BA should follow, these are expected to be
of a strategic nature and of national concern.
The State/Regional groups are being asked to set up conservation committees
to deal with conservation issues on a regional/state basis, and deal with
the day to day, hands-on conservation issues. The VicGroup are establishing
a conservation committee which will hold its first meeting this coming
Thursday (11 March) at 7.00 pm at the BA Offices 415 Riversdale Road,
Hawthorn East, VIC, just prior to the VicGroup Annual General Meeting at
8.00 pm (including invited speaker). It is envisaged that these meeting
will take place on a bimonthly basis before VicGroup meeting (ie May, July,
September etc). Any conservation topics involving local, regional, state or
even national level will be discussed. I would ask anyone who has an
interest in conservation to consider coming along to these meeting or to
get in touch with me for more info. It is likely to be a very important
year for conservation in Victoria with the expected relase of two major ECC
reports (one on Box-Ironbark woodlands and one on Marine, Coastal and
Eustuarine Areas) amongst other issues and an involvement from BA VicGroup
members and any other interested people would be beneficial.
Sorry about the short notice, I tried to send this last week but seem to be
having difficulties with mailing birding-aus
Regards
Stuart Dashper
