birding-aus
Some interesting observations last Saturday while I continue to paint my
surburban weatherboard house in Richmond, Melbourne.
While looking up and painting the walls of the house I heard the excited
chatter of a raptor overhead. It turned out to be an Australian Kestrel
swooping a Brown Goshawk. The soaring Goshawk just lazily lifted its body
out of the way when the Kestrel came close in its dive. I have recorded
both species for Richmond before but this time will make an effort to add
them to the Atlas project.
Within minutes of that sighting I heard the unmistable call of a Quarrion
or Cockatiel. No doubt an aviary escapee. A rather lost looking
individual flew past in the directtiion of the Goshawk!
