birding-aus
Hi all
Saw a Golden Whistler on 10/2/99 in Bayside: they are unusual here in SE
Melbourne in summer. Large head, large bill, rufous in folded wing
(secondaries?) etc. But when viewed from below the outer tail feathers
were white or translucent. Not just at the margins - the feature was
very noticeable.
Couldn't find any reference to this in the field guides etc. Could it
have been something else, please.

PS. Also a blackish falcon - long tail, scimitar wings with some
streaking - flew at 8 Little Ravens. About the same size as the ravens
but slimmer. Another addition to our list of possible Black Falcons in
the area - all in February.
PPS. There may now be 2 lovebirds (probably peach-faced) at Ricketts
Point, Beaumaris (across the bay from Geelong). Any further info. on
the Geelong report about the 200 lovebirds ?
