We met Tony Palliser at the Cattai National Park (about 50 km west of Sydney
beside the Hawkesbury River) to look for the Oriental Cuckoo found by Keith
Brandwood a few days ago. Well, guess what? We found it. It was an Aussie
tick, a state tick and a Sydney tick for me so thank you very much Keith!!!!
We were on the high ground behind the brown (ranger's?) cottage looking over
the top of the fig trees. We had seen many (perhaps 10) Shining
Bronze-cuckoos and Tony saw a large cuckoo fly out of a fig tree and kept
his bins on it until it landed. It was in the top of a eucalypt on the end
of a branch. Well seen were the bars on the breast of an adult bird.
This bird I saw first at Frazer's Hill in Malaysia. I dipped on the one that
most of my friends ticked at the CSIRO place at Fullers Road Chatswood West
many years ago. I told people I wasn't a twitcher and was too busy to look
at such things!
