the Mottled Petrel found on North Stradbroke Island last week was the
third bird to be washed up on Queensland beaches. The previous two
individuals were also found alive, however on Moreton Island (18 Feb
1990 and 17 Dec 1992). As with the most recent bird, these two birds
died in captivity and have been donated to the Queensland Museum. A
further 37 mottled petrels were recorded on a Southport boat trip on the
26 Oct 1996.
