birding-aus My thanks to the folks who came back with their thoughts and info about the New Guinea Sooty Owls, your messages were extremely helpful. Sooty Owl Tyto tenebricosa seems to be the best choice, as suspected, with Lesser Sooty an Australian endemic. The Eungella Sooty Owls being tenebricosa is also a nice supplementary spin-off and greatly narrows the range gap between New Guinea and Australian birds. Thanks again.
