This message is really to Victorian members of Birds Australia - with
Russell's permission - but as it is about a weekend when there will be
atlassing any atlasser and indeed any birder would be welcome
In the last VicBabbler the VicGroup advertised a campout at Gellibrand in
the Otways for the weekend of 20-21 February. The leader is Richard Loyn. I
am named as the contact but I am not going to be here, I am going to be in
Africa (very poor timing as this is just near the Carlisle State Park and
it is a very beautiful and interesting area, chosen by me as I wanted to go
there!); so John Bottomley 52278179, has agreed to be
the contact. (Thanks John)
Rather than camping in tents we have booked one of the cabins at the
Gellibrand River Valley Cabins about 5km west of Gellibrand; people who
want to sleep in tents may make their own arrangements at the Gellibrand
camping area in town, or it may be possible to do it at the Cabin place;
remember it often rains in the Otways and the ground is often very wet.
If anyone especially local atlassers would like to join in on Sat and/or
Sunday without sleeping there, Richard will start the days' activities at
the gateway to the Gellibrand River Valley Cabins at 9am. He intends to do
some night watching too for owls and mammals. If you plan to join the group
for a day please contact John so he and Richard will know what is happening.
I hope it is a productive and enjoyable weekend and look forward to hearing
that you saw Ground Parrots, Beautiful Firetails, and Masked Owls, and lots
of less mythical birds!
