Hi Vicki,
I think you are probably referring to the White-vented Myna which was
introduced to Singapore in the '20's (from cage birds) & is now more common
than the Common Myna, which spread relatively recently from Malaysia to
Singapore. They look rather similar except the White-vented is grey/black
as you say and lacks the yellow eye patch. The Common Mynas I've seen
throughout SEA look much the same as ours, if rather less out of place.
