birding-aus It's interesting to compare the continuing expansion of Indian Mynas in Australia with the fate of the similar Crested Myna in Vancouver. The Crested Mynas have been around Vancouver for the best part of a century (I think), but now they are declining in numbers to the point where there are only 30 - 50 pairs left. The two species certainly appear similar in habits, and surely the climate in Vancouver is not that different from southern Australia for that to be a factor. I have seen people seriously suggesting a conservation project should be established for the Crested Myna, justified in part because of the financial contribution they make to Vancouver from all the US twitchers going there to get them on their ABA area lists!
