birding-aus Last weekend we visited Willandra National Park (near Hillston, NSW). It was interesting comparing the BOP watch count with the one we undertook on 15 April 1990 (sic). On the 60 km trip from the Park HQ to Hillston, in 1990 we recorded 59 Australian Kestrels, 5 Black-shouldered Kites, 4 Black Kites, 3 Brown Falcons and 1 Wedge-tailed Eagle, a total of 72 raptors. This time we observed 2 Aust Kestels and 2 Wedge-tailed Eagles, a total of 4 raptors. In 1990 it was wet, the middle of a mouse plague and prior to the release of the rabbit calicivirus. Now it is dry, post-release of the virus, and with not a mouse in sight!
