Walking past a big irrigation dam on the property where I live, I was thrilled to find a male painted snipe feeding along the foreshore. To my knowledge it is a first for this area (Gunnedah on the north-west slopes and plains of NSW). I watched it for quite a time and got really good views of it. When it stood still it blended into the landscape perfectly and it froze whenever it got concerned. I was incredibly lucky to even notice it was there.
