In response to Hugo Phillips posting of Peter Mitchells concern about the
delisting of Little Tern and Hooded Plover the following may be of
interest.
Although Peter doesn't mention it I believe the delisting he refers to is
the change in status of these species in the Commonwealth Endangered
Species Protection Act 1992. This must be recent news as the webpage for
advice to the Minister regarding changes to listings under this Act does
not mention either of these birds. The site is:
http://www.biodiversity.environment.gov.au/plants/threaten/lists/changes_to
_esp_act_schedules/fauna/index.htm
In Victoria both species remain as threatened species (listed items) under
the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 and there has been no action to
downgrade their status in this state. Hopefully an Environment Australia
list member can enlighten us on the matter.
Hooded Plover are "endangered" and Little Tern "vulnerable" in Victoria.
