Late yesterday (Dec 13th) I was travelling from Meningie (near
the Coorong) to Murray Bridge. Approximately 10km north-east of Meningie I
saw a large flock of at least 250 Cape Barren Geese feeding on irrigated pasture
on the eastern side of the road - this is probably a conservative figure as many
were hard to see in the dull light conditions.
Also present in the same paddock were 60+ Masked Plovers with
40+ Welcome Swallows overhead. A nearby powerline supported 600+ Common
Starlings. No other species were seen or heard.
GPS readings for this site are 35 36' 13" S
139 22' 33"E
The sign at the farm gate read "Granite
View"
I tried to check out the regular flock of CB Geese between
Wellington and Langhorne Creek but darkness came on too quickly, so it is
possible that this flock has moved.
Happy birding,
