Work I did on a QOSI garden bird survey in Brisbane (Ibis 1996, 138:337-340)
showed that gardens with regular Noisy Miners or Grey Butcherbirds had
few House Sparrows.  Unfortunately Noisy Miners kept most of the small
native birds away as well.
