STUART LESLIE BIRD RESEARCH AWARD
Applications are now invited for the Stuart Leslie Bird Research Award.
Established in 1997, the Award supports the research work of postgraduate
students and ornithologists, enabling them to participate in essential
fieldwork and attend scientific conferences.
Applications in the following areas of research are encouraged:
· field work in the behaviour and ecology of native birds
· conservation biology of threatened native birds and management of their
habitat
· travel to ornithological conferences within Australia by postgraduate
students to deliver a paper or poster
Typically, grants of $500 - $3000 will be awarded for research projects and
up to $500 made available for fieldwork or conference travel. Grants for
research projects will be renewable for 2-3 years, provided that
satisfactory progress is made and reports are submitted on time.
Preference is given to supporting postgraduate students who are at an early
stage of their research program at an Australian university or college.
Applications will be accepted between 4 January and 31 March 1999 and
awards will be announced mid-year.
