Today I went to look for Karen's Tawny Frogmouths at Braeside Wetlands in Victoria. Although I found Karen we did not see the Frogmouths. We did, however, see a pair of Great Crested Grebes. The Braeside Park bird list says that this bird is uncommon at Braeside and Rare in Melbourne. It follows Mike Carter's record of Great Crested Grebes in October at the nearby Edithvale Wetlands (Babbler, Dec 98). We also saw a lot of baby water birds including Cygnets, Pacific Black Duck, Chestnut Teal, Grey Teal, Hoary Headed Grebe, Australian Grebe and most delightfully for me baby Dusky Moorhens. It Must be a good season in Bayside Melbourne for birds. Stuart. |
