I'd like to thank everyone for their responses to my Frogmouth question. I
had a wonderful 25 replies! Very pleasant reading.

It seems that my message invoked a few responses in birding-aus
participants. I received wonderful messages reminiscing about first birds
and similar feelings of excitement from their new pursuit, some titillated
at my unrestrained exuberance *g* and even reminding some of friends far
away. Amazingly, I had a reply to my message from a lady in Texas, not
actually a subscriber to birding-aus and who admitted knowing nothing about
Frogmouths. My message was forwarded to her from a birding-aus subscriber
in another far off country, as apparently my 'barely contained enthusiasm'
reminded him of his Texan friend!

Her parting words were;

"So you go, girl!! and don't let anyone curb or jade your enthusiasm. I
think
you get out of bird-watching what you bring to it, and there's nothing that
says abundant enthusiasm can't compensate for little experience, at least in
the long-run!!"

Advice I'm sure I'll keep with me.

I did return to Braeside, actually twice since but couldn't find my big eyed
friends. So I missed the photo but the surprise of looking up and spotting
them will stay with me. I did get some lovely shots of a Superb Wren sat
high on a grass stalk chirping for all he was worth. I also had the
pleasure of some birding-aus company this morning, who upon approaching said
"You look like a Karen type person". I guess the large camera, binoculars,
backpack and field guide in pocket were a dead-giveaway! It was a most
enjoyable few hours resulting in further magnificent photo's (fingers
crossed) of a Black-winged Stilt, Cisticola and an interesting combo of
Red-rumped parrot with a Crested Pigeon.

Thanks again - and birding-aus for being a great forum for information.

Rgds
