WESTERN SYDNEY AREA - 29/11/98

Yesterday, myself, Trevor Quested and Tony Palliser went out hunting for a
few new ticks on our Sydney list. Places visited, and some of the birds seen
include :

COBBITTY (Cut Hill Rd) - several White-winged Trillers (3 active nests were
found. One female was seen feeding a fledged chick, one nest had a male
doing the incubation and another with the female sitting on the eggs.
Another Immature bird was also seen, bringing a total of 8 birds in this
area.), Dusky Woodswallows with fledglings, White-winged Choughs and Scarlet
Honeyeaters calling everywhere.

GREENDALE - more White-winged Trillers (atleast 2 males and a female) and
Scarlet Honeyeaters, aswell as 2-3 Speckled Warblers.

YURRAMUNDI - a Common Sandpiper in the usual location under the
Hawkesbury-Nepean River bridge (Tony, was the only one to get a Sydney tick
and this was it). Also an Azure Kingfisher was seen crossing the river.

CATTAI NP - a Brown Goshawk, Rainbow Bee-eaters and a male Cicadabird.
Trevor says that this is a regular spot for Regent Bowerbirds when the figs
are in fruit. About 10 large fig trees were seen to have fruit and should
ripen in Summer. Will go looking fro them at that time as it is a Sydney
tick for both myself and Tony.

McGRATHS HILL STW - fairly quite with few waterbirds in the ponds at the
moment . Only a handful of Stilts, Ducks, Spoonbills, Pelicans etc

Another days birding.....
