I remember there was some discussion about advertising a while ago. 
I'm not sure if anything was resolved.
It seems to me that a lot of advertising goes on anyway - books/binos for 
sale, seabird trip stuff, bird counts, twitchathons etc.
This forum is a good way to pass on information. Some of that info 
may lead to money swapping hands. There are things that I'm pleased 
to have found out about by way of publicity on birding-aus, and there 
are things that I didn't give two hoots about. None of it has 
bothered me. When my book is published I shall certainly advise 
everyone on birding-aus of its availability, without thinking that 
I'm abusing any privileges or protocols. And in the meantime, I'll 
just read or not read postings the same way I do now.
