John Leonard's request for info regarding African trips has inspired me to post a little appreciation of the internet for arranging birding holidays. Most birding-aussers will have visited Tom Tarrant's excellent web site at some stage. Well so did one Chris Spengler from Cape Town, leaving a note that whenever in South Africa ... come and visit. Tom put me in touch with Chris, and my party of three spent a wonderful week in the Cape Town area, mostly based at a guest house run by Chris (Afton Grove). All local specialities are 'staked out' as are many feeding and watering holes. Wonderful birding and hospitality - highly recommended! If you get that far south John, don't miss it. I'm copying Chris (Hi!!) in case anyone wants to see his email address. Trevor. |
