I have just spent a lovely long weekend at Inala on Bruny Island, looked
after exceedingly well by Tonia Cochran. The island was very beautiful,
the accommodation perfect and the cooking even better.
We saw the Forty-spotted Pardalotes every day, in fact all of the twelve
Tasmanian endemics at Inala except for Black Currawong, Yellow-throated
Honeyeater, Pink Robin and Scrubtit. We saw Pink Robin at Mount Mangana
near Inala, but not the Scrubtit which has been seen there before. I also
saw Pink Robin in Hobart at Fern Tree, along with Black Currawong but again
no Scrubtit. At Inala were two Wedge-tailed Eagles, presumably of the
Tasmanian race, which are relatively rare. About 10 Beautiful Firetails
were around the house every day as well as Swift Parrots nesting nearby.
I recommend Bruny Island to all those who like pleasant surroundings while
birdwatching.
