Hi Edwin
I have been advised that a Cotton Pygmy Goose was seen in the Macquarie
Marshes Nature Reserve on 10/9/98 and that 14 Magpie Geese were seen
near Trangie on 12/9/98. This is not unusal for the Magpie Geese to be
at or near the Macquarie Marshes as they turned up there in 1983 and
have been present ever since in small numbers.

There are only 3 records for Green Pygmy Geese in NSW viz
    1 Sydney 1910
    1 Tucki 1956
    1 Coraki 1975

The Cotton Pygmy Geese have about 12 records for NSW, and since 1950
these have been as follows
    Lismore 1955-56
    Murwillumbah 1964
Hawkesbury marshes 16/6 to 6/9/69 at Longneck & Bushells Lagoons
    Rocky Dam near Yetman 1971
Lane Cove River 6/7/91 to 8/2/92 and again 5-29/11/92
1 on a small lagoon on Mooney Mooney Creek, Brisbane Water NP 2 June
1996

I have yet to recieve any details of the Cotton Pygmy Goose at the
Marshes.

I suggest that you contact the Acting Senior Ranger, Macquarie Marshes
NR Tel 02 68 242 097 for further details
